• Establish a thorough understanding from members of the working group on the current standards and practices at various hospitals for the clinical coding of heart disease and how clinical documentation is used in the process including ICD-10-AM, International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM), future planning for ICD-11, Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine (SNOMED), Australian Coding Standards, and other relevant health related classifications.

• Develop, implement, and evaluate education programs for improving clinical documentation and ICD-10-AM clinical coding processes for heart disease.

• Be responsible for the ongoing evaluation and revision of education programs.

• Monitor and incorporate learnings from the quality of clinical coding for heart disease related admitted episodes of care via the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, and other administrative datasets and stakeholders.

• Share knowledge with working group members and external parties on clinical coding and statistical techniques for the preparation of datasets and for the analyses of linked data.

• Collaborate on the writing of grant applications or publications to improve clinical documentation, classification development and clinical coding of heart disease.

We welcome new members of the Australia and New Zealand Heart Disease Clinical Coding Working Group. The group meets quarterly via Zoom.
